Submission Guideline
Preparing Your Manuscript for Submission
Length, Language and Article Type
Before submitting, authors must ensure that their manuscript:
- Falls within the 8,000-10,000 word limit
- Includes:
- Title
- Abstract (150-300 words)
- About 5 keywords
- Full manuscript text
- Tables and figures embedded in the file
- References
- Demonstrates a clear European dimension, as described in the Author Guidelines
- Follows APA citation style (latest edition)
- Is written in clear academic English (British spelling and conventions) - language editing before submission is strongly recommended.
Formatting and Style
- Citation and reference style: APA (latest edition); including DOIs, urls
- Use clear and consistent headings throughout
- Tables should be presented as editable tables, not images
- Figures should preferably be submitted as:
- SVG files (text as editable glyphs), or
- Original source files (e.g., Excel, R, SPSS outputs)
Submission Platform and Timeline
All submissions are made via the journal’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, in Microsoft Word (.docx) or OpenDocument (.odt) format.
- Submissions must be made within three years from the ERC presentation.
- Manuscripts may undergo development over one to two years, depending on the review process.
- Accepted papers may be scheduled for publication in a future annual issue.
Review and Editorial Process
ERE follows a rigorous double-blind peer review process designed to support emerging researchers in strengthening their work. The journal is committed to developmental peer review: reviewer feedback is expected to be constructive, specific, and formative, and all authors who submit to ERE receive detailed written feedback regardless of the editorial outcome. The process is developmental rather than judgmental. The number of review rounds and the overall timeline vary from one manuscript to another, depending on how thoroughly the author addresses and explains their response to reviewer feedback.
Resubmission Policy
- Authors invited to revise must submit a revised manuscript and response to reviewers.
- Resubmissions after major revision will undergo further review.
- Rejected papers may not be resubmitted.
Production and Publication
Accepted manuscripts will undergo:
- Copy editing is organized by the editorial team;
- Proofreading of typeset proofs - this is the responsibility of the corresponding author, who will be asked to check and approve proofs before publication; the editorial team does not undertake substantive proofreading on authors' behalf;
Articles will be published in HTML format (primary), with a PDF version also available.
Ethical Standards and Research Integrity
Emerging Research in Education (ERE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics. The journal follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the ethical guidelines of the European Educational Research Association (EERA).

Originality and Plagiarism
- All submissions must be original work, not previously published and not under consideration elsewhere.
- Manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening by the Editors-in-Chief (EICs) prior to review.
- Cases of suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other research misconduct are handled according to EERA’s guidelines and academic ethics standards.
Authorship
- On the cover page, authors must confirm that all listed authors have made substantial contributions to the work and qualify for authorship.
- Supervisors may be included as co-authors only where their contribution justifies authorship; ERE prioritizes the independence of emerging researchers as the driving force behind the submitted work.
- All authors must approve the submission, and any change to the author list after submission must be agreed by all authors.
Ethical Compliance
By submitting, authors confirm that they have complied with relevant ethical standards, including:
- Informed consent from research participants, where applicable
- Data protection regulations, including anonymization or secure handling of personal data
- Institutional or ethics committee approvals, where applicable, with the approving body and approval number stated in the manuscript or cover letter.
Where none of the above applies to a submission, authors should state this explicitly rather than leaving the matter unaddressed.
Open Research and Data Transparency
Authors are encouraged to:
- Share data, materials, or protocols where possible;
- Link to public repositories (e.g., OSF);
- Provide transparency about their research process, including any deviations from a pre-registered plan.
Responsible Use of Generative AI
Emerging Research in Education (ERE) is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. In line with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and EERA’s AI Policy, we expect authors, reviewers, and editors to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools responsibly and transparently.
- Authors shall clearly disclose the use of any generative AI tools in the writing, editing, or translation of their manuscripts. This includes AI assistance in data analysis, media generation, or literature reviews.
- AI tools cannot be credited as authors. Responsibility for the content remains solely with the human authors.
- Authors remain responsible for verifying the accuracy of all AI-generated content, including references, data, quotations, and factual claims.
- Data protection, fairness, and the potential for bias must be considered when using AI throughout the research and publication process.
- Authors, reviewers, and editors should not upload confidential, unpublished, or personally identifiable information to AI systems unless this is permitted under applicable data protection requirements.
Copyright Notice
Authors who submit to Emerging Research in Education (ERE) confirm that:
- The submitted manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal or publisher.
- All authors have approved the submission and agree to its publication should the manuscript be accepted.
- The authors hold the rights necessary to submit the work and have obtained permission to reproduce any copyrighted materials, including images, figures, tables, datasets, or other third-party content.
- The manuscript complies with the ethical and authorship requirements described in the Author Guidelines.
Authors retain copyright of their work. By accepting publication in Emerging Research in Education (ERE), authors grant the journal the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and preserve the article in all formats and media.
Published articles are made freely available in accordance with ERE's Diamond Open Access publishing model.
